Captain's House Suites
Vothonas - Santorini
The house was built in 1812 by the captain of a merchant ship connecting Santorini with Crete and Egypt. His building method was innovative for the time because of the application of anti-seismic shielding with the excavation method In 1915 it was bought by a horse dealer and he developed a wine press on the canvas plot and horse stable. In 1944 it was captured by the Germans because of the position so that they have an image of the whole village. The path in front of the house is the only one that connected Vothona with Exo Gonia and Pyrgos until the country road was created. Vothonas has been designated a traditional settlement by Unesco and the path is still used today by hikers.
